What is Chi Kung?
Chi Kung is a
form of energy work and one of the most widely practiced
forms of exercise in China. There are about 350 different
variations whose purpose is to guide energy, rather than
dispersing it, making the Chi stronger and more helpful to
health by making the connection to natural forces through
effective breathing and exchanges of energy with the
universe. The early Taoist practiced in caves and on
mountain tops and believed that the higher altitudes
fostered a stronger connection of universal Chi especially
for the vital organs and overall stronger health. Today,
practice can be seen in most public parks in China and in
order to be seen by a traditional Chinese doctor, one must
have a basic knowledge of Chi Kung to assist the doctor with
treatment of balancing ones energy flow throughout the body.
In China, the Dragon has great historical and cultural
significance and represents the highest level of
development. Fire and Water are the central elements
reflecting changes on Earth. “Fire” energy of the universe
is intended to be used internally and to drive out negative
Chi. Fire Dragon Chi Kung’s goal is to cultivate an
intensity of Chi internally and spiritually. This surpasses
“form” or external movements, and allows the expression of
Chi to be all encompassing. The body’s organs are made
stronger and function more effectively with the development
of positive Chi. Practicing Chi Kung reduces stress,
depression, blood pressure, breathing and heart rate, pain
and inflammation, while improving flexibility and balance,
strength, circulation, immune system function, posture,
ability to relax, concentration, memory and mental
outlook.
